Marc. N. Brandt served as the third Executive Director of The Arc New York, beginning in July, 1982. Prior to that role, he served as Executive Director of the Sullivan County Chapter from 1971 to 1982. During that time, Marc is credited with the development of a full spectrum of services for Sullivan County which brought back to Sullivan County all of the individuals that were formerly institutionalized as well as a full community day and residential program. Prior to working for the Sullivan County Chapter, Marc was the Director of Special Education for the Beaumont School and Campus in Liberty, New York; and served as an adjunct instructor at Sullivan County Community College. Marc was also a special education teacher at the Manhattan School for Seriously Disturbed Children in New York City where he was instrumental in establishing an integrated classroom within the public school system. Throughout the years, Mr. Brandt has been appointed to various councils at the local, state and federal levels. He is a past member of the Board of Visitors of Middletown Psychiatric Center, the Sullivan County Community Services Board, Chairperson of the Community Residence Council of Providers, councilman on the Town Board in Liberty, New York As well as the President of the Liberty Central School. Marc was instrumental in the signing of a number of Legislative bills concerning advocacy issues and rights of individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities. Legislation calling for a bill of rights in community residences and a bill establishing an ombudsman on the groups of developmental centers, to name but two, were signed into law by the Governor under Marc's leadership. |
